Back in the 90's, I remember staying up all night talking with my housemate, M. I don't remember what we talked about but I remember when light broke through the many paned windows of our sun room he looked looked at me, smiled that crazy beautiful grin of his and sang "look at the sky, it's the color of love" from Sade's song Kiss of Life. Just one of those small inconsequential yet magical moments that happen in life.
For a short while, I loved M. Enough to break up with someone else I'd loved for four years to pursue him. M never loved me. He introduced me to his close friend, who I ended up loving for six years. Until he decided he didn't love me anymore.
Those loves are long behind me now.
But I still love a gorgeous streaky sky.
And Sade.
Sometimes I'll be driving along, be taken by the sky above and that lyric pops in to my head and out of mouth.
Soldier of Love, Sade's new record is coming out today. It's been ten years since the last one. A long time to wait. Can't wait to hear it.
Oh those bittersweet memories of when we were young, single and in love. I keep meaning to download Sade's new cd. She's just so good, isn't she?
