The simple things

M. Heart at Secret Notebooks  Wild Pages posted a list of simple things she enjoys as answer to a query by Christina of Soul Aperture. Christina suggested bloggers take time today, June 10, to make up their own list.

For me, the list includes:

Free time to stand at the window with my binoculars watching the birds when it is cold outside or in warm weather sitting out on the front porch or beneath the mulberry tree out back watching them flit and dive going about their birdy business

sharing a plate of cheese and fruit

using the slotted metal spoon I unearthed while digging under my mother's dogwood when I was a child

a seriously hot shower

My dog, Quentin, perfectly curled up against my tummy

gin and tonic with extra lime

rescuing old books

the heavy scent of lilacs or honeysuckle perfuming the night air

watching our garden grow

eating an avocado topped with crunchy salt and pepper right out of it's skin with a spoon

getting hugs from my nephews

opening up the sunroof and singing really loud

dancing

opening the mailbox to discover a letter

a freshly made bed

quiet time to read and write

farm stands

handmade soap

lingering in the library

being unexpectedly moved by a photograph, a painting, music or film
