One of the items on my 101 Things To Do In 1001 Days List is to make a list of 100 things that make me happy.
I was surprised to find a book at a local thrift shop of exactly that kind of list. 14,000 things to be happy about. by Barbara Ann Kipper. in 2007, she updated it with 1,500 more items id you can believe it.
I've been watching my nephews in the last week here and there as their schedule shifts from full days to half days, off of school to day camp hours. It's hard for my sister to coordinate with their schedules and keep making money to run the house, so I pop in when I can help out.
Having four boys in my rather unskilled hands makes me nervous, so I always come prepared with a list of activities that will keep them occupied. The other day, I pulled out Kipper's book and threw out some of her items to them randomly. Some of the things got the nod, some they didn't like.
So they started their own list:
pet crocodiles
waterproof band aids
being with family
ribs with roasted garlic
remote control oven (this is a wish maybe?)
my artwork
chocolate bars
riding rollercoasters and swimming
doing mathematics
ferris wheels
glitter
building lego sets
buying toys
making art together
friends
postcards
Honestly, they slay me with their wisdom.
Such a good list.
