you don't have to convince me that those squirrels were on attack...there's a particularly viscious bunch of black squirrels holding court in montreal. seriously, my husband and i were chased out of the park and we didn't care who saw us!

since then, i've hated them and i think there are other ways to get rid of them besides eating, blech.

i tried to see the elizabeth peyton exhibition but i went on a tuesday and who knew that the new museum was closed, feh. was it good?

porchetta is definitely going into my new york journal to try on our next visit...which may not be this weekend after all since we are due to have another snow storm on saturday :(

squirrels give me the creeps too, especially the one's in the city who are much bolder than their rural cousins. one summer, while walking through the union square green market j and i watched on drop straight down off a branch and hit the pavement. a crowd gathered and after laying still for a few minutes he popped back up and began walking around in stunned circles.

i have an cookbook of "country hill cooking" that includes recipes for squirrel. i'll have to dig it out and see what else is in there...yuck.

What are Magpies?

  • Magpies are talkative birds that have an eye for shiny things. I consider myself to be a magpie. This is a collection of all the shiny, wonderful things I would normally carry around in my pockets. Scraps of paper, bits of string, shooter marbles and diamond rings.
